The European Visa Database was constructed as part of a
PhD project at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The database is intended as an aid to researchers working on migration and mobility control.
The dataset covers three key dimensions of contemporary mobility regimes:
- Visa requirements
- Visa issuing practices
- Access to consular services
In addition, it offers an index of barriers to free movement. The database covers the policies and practices of the European Union (Schengen) states, the United Kingdom and the United States. It
database collects and presents public government data in a systematized and readily viewable form.
This webpage provides additional background on the database and makes it possible to explore the
data. It also contains a brief overview of relevant existing research.
If you decide to make use of the data please provide a reference to the webpage and
the background research note.
